*It will be during this time that the antichrist will be born….

The Blessed Virgin Mary spoke to Melanie Calvat at La Salette in the 1800′s. Melanie was given a set of secrets, which she was later allow to reveal, consisting of 33 paragraphs. Here is my translation of the secrets from the French

See my booklet: The Secrets of La Salette and the End Times for my complete detailed interpretation of all the secrets of La Salette. In this brief post, I will simply point out that the two-part structure of the tribulation is very clear in the words of Mary at La Salette.

In the first 19 paragraphs of Melanie’s secret, Mary describes a series of sufferings, including war (World War 3), civil unrest, and a great degradation of morals in society. These paragraphs describe the first part of the tribulation. This part of the private revelation includes descriptions which could be interpreted as applying to either or both parts of the tribulation, for the first part is a foreshadowing of the second. But the division into two parts becomes unmistakable as we continue to the next paragraphs.
The beginning of paragraph 20 describes, in my interpretation, the last set of events of the first part of the tribulation: World War 4 and then a severe set of sufferings from nature. The next part of that paragraph describes the Three Days of Darkness, in which, as Scripture says, “one third part of men” (Rev 9:15,18) — that is, one third of the human race — is killed:
20. ‘Then Jesus Christ by an act of His justice and of His great mercy for the just, will command to His angels that all His enemies be put to death. All at once the persecutors of the Church of Jesus Christ and all men devoted to sin will perish, and the earth will become like a desert.’
The Three Days of Darkness, which kills a vast number of human persons throughout the world, is the last event of the first part of the tribulation. Thereafter, there is a time of peace, holiness, and rebuilding. This time is described in paragraph 21.
21. ‘This peace among men will not be long; 25 years of abundant harvests will make them forget that the sins of men are the cause of all the pains which come upon the earth.’
At this point (n. 21), where are we in the progress of the tribulation toward the reign of the Antichrist and the subsequent Return of Jesus Christ? Is the Antichrist involved in the first part of the tribulation? The answer is found in the subsequent paragraphs.
22. ‘A forerunner of the antichrist with his troops from several nations will fight against the true Christ, the only Savior of the world; he will spill much blood, and will want to annihilate the worship of God in order to make himself be looked upon as a God.’
The Antichrist is not in the world today. He has not been born yet. He is not involved at all in the first part of the tribulation because he will not be born and rise to power until a much later time. Thus, after all of the afflictions of the first part of the tribulation, and after (perhaps long after) the brief time of 25 years of peace, only then does a mere “forerunner” of the Antichrist rise to power. The one human person properly called the Antichrist is still, even at that late date, not yet born.

And what happens next? Does the Antichrist arrive and rise to power? No, not even then. For first the kingdom of the ten kings must arise to dominate the world for a lengthy time (in my opinion about a century).
23. ‘The earth will be struck all kinds of plagues… there will be wars until the last war, which will then be made by the ten kings of the antichrist, which kings will have all one same design and will be the only ones who will rule the world….
So after the first part of the tribulation ends with the Three Days of Darkness, after the brief time of peace, after sinfulness resumes and eventually a forerunner of the Antichrist rises and falls, then there are more sufferings, including a series of wars. After all that, the kingdom of the ten kings arises, which is called the kingdom of the Antichrist because he will, in the latter days of that wicked kingdom, be born and rise to power. The kingdom of the ten kings eventually becomes the kingdom of the Antichrist. Only then does the second part of the tribulation occur, long after the first part of the tribulation has ended, and after an inter-tribulation period that spans many generations. Only after all those events is the Antichrist born:
26. ‘It will be during this time that the antichrist will be born….
Then later he rises to power (n. 28 to 32), and, after a brief reign, he and his kingdom are defeated (n. 33).
33. ‘Behold the time; the abyss opens. Behold the king of kings of darkness. Behold the beast with his subjects, calling himself the savior of the world. He will raise himself up with pride into the air in order to go even up to heaven; he will be smothered by the breath of the holy Archangel Michael. He will fall, and the earth which for three days will be in continual evolutions, will open its bosom full of fire; he will be plunged for ever with all his own into the eternal chasms of hell. Then water and fire will purify the earth and will consume all the works of the pride of men, and all will be renewed: God will be served and glorified.’
