Trump Deprives Global Abortion Industry Of Billions

Signs executive measure one day after anniversary of Roe v. Wade

WASHINGTON (ChurchMilitant.com) - Only one day after the 44th anniversary of Roe v. Wade and three days after his inauguration, President Donald Trump reinstated the Mexico City Policy Monday, depriving international abortion organizations of billions in federal dollars.
NARAL Pro-Choice America was quick to blast the president. "Donald Trump has turned his anti-women rhetoric into policy, and made it more difficult for women and families all over the world to access vital reproductive care," complained Ilyse Hogue, president of the pro-abortion group. "He really is living up to the lowest of expectations."
The Mexico City Policy was first enacted by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 (named after the city that hosted the U.N. International Conference on Population, where the policy was first announced), and directed that the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) withhold federal funds from international organizations that perform abortions.

President Bill Clinton overturned the policy on the anniversary of Roe v. Wade in 1993, which was reinstated under President George W. Bush on Roe's anniversary in 2001. The Mexico City Policy was once again reversed under President Barack Obama in 2009.
Pro-lifers are applauding Trump's action
"This is a vital step in the journey to make America great again," said Tony Perkins, head of Family Research Council, "recognizing and affirming the universal ideal that all human beings have inherent worth and dignity, regardless of their age or nationality.
"I thank President Trump for issuing an executive order in keeping with his campaign promise that he will protect taxpayers from having to pay for abortions," he added.
Senator James Lankford, a Republican from Oklahoma, tweeted, "For yrs, U.S. has debated abortion. At least we can agree no taxpayer should be forced to pay for it."
Among other executive orders signed by Trump Monday were the formal withdrawal of the United States from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, making good on his campaign promise, as well as a hiring freeze for regulatory agencies — "except for the military," he said as he signed the order.
