NEW YORK (ChurchMilitant.com) - Jesuit homosexualist Fr. James Martin is praising a Wisconsin priest for "coming out," calling him a pioneer.
On December 18, the National Catholic Reporter (NCR) — a self-professed dissident Catholic news organization — featured an article where Fr. Gregory Greiten admits he is "gay."
Martin, well known for claiming homosexuals don't have to be celibate, deriding Church teaching that same-sex genital acts are intrinsically sinful and that gay men should kiss during Mass, is praising Greiten, calling him a "pioneer."
He further admits, "There are hundreds, if not thousands, of celibate gay priests in the Catholic Church."
Greiten, the pastor of St. Bernadette parish in Milwaukee, writes, "Today, I break the silence and emerge free from the shackles of shame placed upon me at a young age. ... I am gay."
He claims he was shamed while in the minor seminary and when he was 24 years old and in major seminary:
I finally admitted to myself, "I am gay!" I was driving down a road trying to keep from veering out of my lane or off the road itself, repeating to myself again and again, "I am gay!" Years of built-up, toxic shame came pouring out of me as the tears were flowing down my cheeks.
He further admits his spiritual director and seminary director of spiritual formation approved and advanced him to ordination. This directly contradicts Vatican directives, which forbid those with "deep-seated homosexual tendencies" from entering the priesthood.
Greiten estimates, using information gathered by Fr. Donald Couzins, that between 23–58 percent of priests are gay — meaning that over 21,000 U.S. priests are homosexual. Michael Voris reported in 2016 that half of all U.S. priests and bishops are homosexual.
Despite the fact Martin praises priests for "coming out," his own superiors have forbidden him from publicly revealing his own sexuality and has claimed men who have converted from the homosexual lifestyle don't live a fully "integrated life."
