This is already a repeated abuse

Iconic Christ Statue Turns Pink in Brazil

The 40-meter monument was lit up bright pink on Tuesday to commemorate Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The event was organized by Brazilian non-profit organization Fundacao Laco Rosa, or Pink Bow Foundation, and was attended by cancer patients and activists. (BBC)

This has become customary as can be seen in the images below:

Disguising the Redeemer to honor (?) the medical staff during the `pandemic', using purple light against human trafficking, green and yellow for the death of Pelé, dressing the statue with a World Cup T-shirt, using lighting to create the flag of Italy, or the French flag for the commemoration of the victims of terrorism at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, everything can be a reason to project colors on the Christ.

And I do not think it is wrong to appeal to the goodness and charity of Jesus Christ as a model for the world, however, here there is a use of the monument for profane purposes, such as giving honor to health personnel (who in many cases were negligent), on the occasion of a secular commemoration in Brazil or the death of a famous soccer player.

And that is not right, because let us not forget that God became man to show us the way to Heaven, not to be an arbitrary toy of various and even laudable causes that have nothing to do with the divine mission of bringing souls to salvation. So the use of the representation of Christ the Redeemer for arbitrary purposes disgusts me and says a lot about the degradation that society has made of Christianity to the point of turning it into just another idea, emptied of meaning, of which one can take advantage knowing that the representatives of the Church will not protest.
