Berlin: Pudding Bowl Altar

Berlin's Archbishop Heiner Koch consecrates a new Novus Ordo table for St Hedwig's Cathedral, which is still under reconstruction, on All Saints' Day. The object weighs two tonnes and is - for whatever reason - in the shape of a pudding bowl. It stands in the middle of a circular, barren meeting room.

The table is made of small stones that come from people in the archdiocese, who symbolically put their lives into the pudding bowl. One stone comes from Alen Albezo, an Iraqi migrant. He picked it up on a beach near Athens in 2015.
