To love in all things the will of God

Father, thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.... And we dispose the soul not only to carry out the divine will, but to love what God does or permits. When events or circumstances do not allow us to choose, it is God who has already chosen for us. It is in these situations, sometimes humanly difficult, that we should say peacefully: "Do you want it, Lord? These can be extraordinary occasions to trust more and more in God. That divine will that we accept may be called suffering, illness or loss of a loved one. Or perhaps they are events that come to us through the simple events of each day or the passing of the days: accepting the passage of time that begins to leave its mark on the body, an insufficient salary, a profession different from the one we would have liked to exercise but that we must carry out with love because circumstances have led us to it and that it is no longer possible to abandon, failure due to an oversight or ridiculous mistake, misunderstandings, the character of someone with whom we have to spend many hours every day side by side, unfulfilled noble dreams..., the acceptance of one's own self, the acceptance of one's own will and the acceptance of the will of God. ..., the acceptance of oneself with all its limitations, without this killing the desire to improve and, above all, to grow in virtues. We too will then be able to say:

"Give me wealth or poverty,
give me consolation or disconsolation,
give me joy or sorrow (...).
What do you command to be done to me? "14.

What do you want from me, Lord, in this concrete circumstance, and in that one?

The joyful acceptance of the divine will will always give us peace of soul and, in human terms, will avoid useless wear and tear, but often it will not suppress pain. Jesus himself wept as we do. In the Letter to the Hebrews we read that in the days of his mortal life he offered prayers and supplications with powerful cries and tears15. Our tears, when it is a painful event, do not offend God, but move his compassion. "You have said to me, Father, I am having a very hard time.

"And I answered you in your ear: take on your shoulders a small part of that cross, just a small part. And if even so you cannot bear it, ...leave it all on the strong shoulders of Christ. And from now on, repeat after me: Lord, my God: into your hands I abandon the past and the present and the future, the small and the great, the little and the much, the temporal and the eternal.

"And be still "16.

The Lord also wants that, together with the loving acceptance of the divine will, we put all the human means to get out of this bad situation, if it is possible. And if it is not possible, or if it takes a long time to be resolved, we will embrace our Father God with strength and we will be able to say, like St. Paul in very difficult moments: I rejoice in all our troubles17. Nothing can take away our joy.

Our Blessed Mother Mary is the model for us to imitate, saying: Let it be done to me according to your word. Let it be done as you will, and as you will, O Lord.
