Madrid Priest Takes Time Off After Homosex Scandal

Rev José Castro Cea, the parish priest of the El Pilar church in Madrid, Spain, has finally decided to leave the parish "for a while".

InfoVaticana.com had previously reported on a video showing him in a bar in the local homosexual district bragging about the size of his friend's private parts.

Rev Cea's first attempt has been to wait out and [predictably] deny the scandal. Last week, he wrote to the parish council about the recent "complicated days".

He comments on the video, recorded in March: "I attended a comedy show at the Arlequín Theatre with some friends. In this show, I was involved in a joke, that was tasteless and unfortunate. The performer posted the video on his social networks and removed it when I contacted him. However, my superiors became aware of what had happened, contacted me and I offered the appropriate explanations."

The video was recently re-posted online and caused a scandal. Since then, Rev Cea has felt the support [not punishment] of the bishops of Madrid, including Cardinal José Cobo, his friend for decades.

Rev Cea's line of resignation: "In order to preserve my personal peace and that of those around me, with the permission of my superiors, I will take a period of silence to help me overcome this unpleasant moment for everyone".

He ended the letter "with all my affection".
