Today, the Vatican commemorated the Jubilee of the Holy See. Sister
Maria Gloria Riva delivered a speech to Leo XIV and the Curia. She
preached that hope lies between the past and the future.
Sister
Riva warned that taking either "extreme" can be dangerous: looking back
too much risks generating a "sterile traditionalism" and "nostalgia for a
past" that no longer exists. Running too far ahead could result in an
illusory futurism and an inability to face the concrete challenges of
the present, she said.
Afterwards, Pope Leo XIV carried the
wooden Jubilee cross and led a solemn procession through the Holy Door
of St Peter's Basilica. The Cardinals walked right behind him.
During
the Eucharist in St Peter's Basilica, Pope Leo XIV reflected on the two
pillars of the Holy See, Our Lady and Saint Peter. 'The Holy See
experiences the coexistence of the two poles — the Marian and the
Petrine — in a very special way. It is precisely the Marian pole, with
its motherhood and gift of Christ and the Spirit, that ensures the
fruitfulness and holiness of the Petrine pole”.
