French police investigate Defend Europe

...not the role of far-left activists during ‘Operation Alps’
Voice of Europe reported last week about Defend Europe’s (DE) latest initiative in the Alps. On Friday, French newspaper Le Monde reported that the public prosecutor of Gap announced the opening of an investigation to discover if Defend Europe committed any infractions against the migrants.
While the last Defend Europe operation in the Alps was a harmless PR move made in order to spark a public debate on immigration, Gap’s public prosecutor announced an investigation regarding the recent actions of the identitarian activists.
Public prosecutor Raphaël Balland said about the investigation: “We don’t know anything about what happened (…)”. The prosecutor added that he wants to “verify if any infractions against the migrants were committed (…).
Later on Friday it was reported that no criminal offenses by DE were registered: “Investigations conducted throughout the day by the police company of Briançon and the interdepartmental management of the police at the borders of Montgenèvre, including the interviewing of migrants, have collected no complaint, nor noted any criminal offense [by the group]”.
While the actions of the identitarians were scrutinised, no preliminary investigation was initiated against leftist activists or migrants regarding illegal border crossing, which is an actual felony according to French law.

Of the large group of leftists and migrants that illegally crossed the border between Italy and France, only 15 migrants were arrested, Le Monde reports.
