Our Lady goes ahead in every evangelization

You remain as the pillar that guided and supported the people day and night in the desert.

In the book of Exodus we read how Yahweh preceded the people in the desert, by day as a pillar in the form of a cloud to show them the way, and by night as a pillar of fire to give them light. In the Book of Wisdom it is written: And instead of darkness thou hast kindled a pillar, which thou gavest for their way, a sun that burned them not, for a glorious pilgrimage.

Our Lady was the one who went ahead in the evangelization of the beginnings, lighting the way, and she is the one who now goes first, illuminating our own way and the personal apostolate that we as ordinary Christians carry out in our family, at work and in the environments we frequent. For this reason, when we propose to bring a family member or friend closer to God, we entrust him or her first of all to Our Lady. She removes obstacles and teaches us how to do it. Each one of us, perhaps, has experienced this powerful help from Our Lady. "Yes, we have as our guide a pillar that accompanies the new Israel, the Church, on her pilgrimage towards the Promised Land, which is Christ the Lord. Our Lady of the Pillar is the splendid beacon, the throne of glory, that guides and consolidates the faith of a people that never tires of repeating in the Salve Regina: Show us Jesus."

The evangelization begun in every part of the world, centuries or even a few years ago, will not end until the end of time. Now it is up to us to carry it out. For that we must know how to understand everyone from the heart. With greater understanding the more distant they are from Christ, with great charity, with kind treatment, without yielding in personal conduct or in the doctrine that we have received through the sure channel of the Church.

Let us go to Our Lady asking her for light and help in those apostolic goals that we propose to carry out the apostolic vocation received in Baptism. Let us go to her through the Holy Rosary, especially in this month of October, the month of the Rosary, let us visit her shrines and wayside shrines, offering her some small sacrifice, which she smilingly accepts and transforms into something great. To turn to her for help is a good beginning in every apostolate.

In this evangelizing action that every Christian should carry out in a natural and simple way, we should have her as our model. Let us look at her normal life: we will see her kind charity, the spirit of service that is manifested at Cana, in the alacrity with which she helps her cousin St. Elizabeth.... We should contemplate her habitual smile, which made her so attractive to the people who usually treated her.... So must we be.
