Marian apparitions must be canceled
by Fr Joachim Heimerl
The "Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith" published a new document shortly before Pentecost. It is the third in the tenure of the controversial prefect Cardinal Fernandez and will probably cause as much of a stir among Catholics around the world as the previous two. - Let me say it now: little by little it would be time to rename the dicastery: 'Dicastery for the Lack of Faith' would still be the most innocuous name.
But let's go in order: the new document does not sound very exciting: 'Norms for the procedure of evaluation of alleged supernatural phenomena'.
However, what lies behind this cumbersome title is toxic: quite simply, it deals with Marian apparitions and how to neutralize or erase them.
This is not without explosiveness, because countless Catholics draw significantly on such phenomena in their religious life. It is therefore unlikely that the new document - and especially its application - will find broad consensus among the faithful. Even less so if one looks at the statements that underlie it.
The procedure is always the same: Cardinal Fernandez gives an appearance of fidelity to the faith in order to undermine it. This can be seen in the heretical blessing document 'Fiducia supplicans', as well as, somewhat more subtly, in 'Dignitas infinita', which dealt with human dignity.
Now it is the turn of Marian apparitions, and Fernandez points out that these are always "private revelations" that are not part of the deposit of faith. That's fine, and it's nothing new, but that's not what it's about.
It is rather about something that is not even mentioned: it is about the fact that such phenomena simply happen and, above all, about the fact that they are very disturbing. It does not matter whether these phenomena are historical and recognized by the Church, as in Lourdes (1858) and Fatima (1917), or current, as in Medjugorje (since 1981).
But who exactly is bothered by these phenomena?
Certainly not the millions and millions of pilgrims who experience grace, conversion and healing through them. But they do bother all those who no longer believe in God and especially those who occupy high and lofty ecclesiastical offices, viz: Fernandez and associates.
Those who want to build a "synodal" Church, artificial and falsifying the faith according to their own ideas, do not see any sense in the Marian apparitions. After all, they point to God as Lord of the Church as a sign of exclamation; and they remind us that we are committed only to HIM and to HIS final revelation. - But this is often the opposite of what Cardinal Fernandez teaches on behalf of the Pope.
In short: Marian apparitions cannot be used for the propaganda of the synodal 'Church reformers' and, therefore, must be relativized.
For this reason, the new "norms" will at most certify the innocuousness of such phenomena in the future, but no longer - as before - their supernatural character. That is to say: the Church, at most, puts a question mark over everything supernatural and, basically, leaves things as they are.
Of course, this regulation also indirectly affects already recognized phenomena, because the sign of the "norms" is clear: there are no reliable statements about the supernatural.
This point of view is scandalous and also heretical, because it indirectly denies God himself, or at least his power to intervene in our presence.
In this sense, the new document goes far beyond Marian apparitions. It sheds significant light on the current imbalance in the Church, in which supernatural faith no longer plays any role.
The documents "Fiducia supplicans" and "Dignitas infinita" have already demonstrated this. And the "World Synod" does not serve to defend or deepen the deposit of faith, but to adapt it to the spirit of the times.
To make this work, they resort to a trick commonly called in synodal parlance: 'Conversation in the Holy Spirit': it's all about listening to the 'Holy Spirit' and what - supposedly - he says to the 'New' Church.
Isn't that great? Because even if the Holy Spirit really did speak to the Synod, it would be one of those 'supernatural phenomena' that the new 'norms' deny.
The result would be something that according to Church doctrine does not exist, i.e. a new revelation of God that no longer corresponds to the previous one.
So let me put it simply: the alleged "supernatural phenomena" are now only accepted if they correspond to the Pope's politically destructive agenda for the Church. Everything else - and this also includes apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary - will in the future be considered at best "harmless" and therefore meaningless.
However, there is a problem: even if the apparitions are 'private revelations', God has always been happy to speak to and guide his people, because God alone is the sovereign Lord of the Church and not Francis or even Fernandez.
The new 'norms' cannot prevent this, so they may soon be superseded by heaven. God Himself or the Blessed Virgin Mary do not need one thing: the recognition of the `Pope' or his prefect of the faith.
The most famous example is the miracle of the sun at Fatima, which took place on October 13, 1917 before one hundred thousand people: this miracle was so overwhelming and so evidently supernatural that the recognition of the apparitions by the Church remained a formality afterwards.
Even today we can be sure: the Blessed Virgin, who crushed the unbelief of the Portuguese Communists, will also destroy the new unbelief in the Church; Francis and Fernandez can experience it while they are still in office.
- After all: in Medjugorje ten secrets were announced for the near future, which will be revealed to the world three days before they happen.
And also at Garabandal (1961-65), the Blessed Virgin once foretold a Warning, then a Miracle and finally the Judgment.
By the way, all this is supposed to take place after an event unknown in the ecclesiastical language of the time, namely after an important "synod"!
Therefore, the shelf life of the new "norms" could be very short; that of the unfaithful "synodal church" and that of the "world synod" as well. - We shall see.
