Arlington Carmelites Turn to Suspended Priests for Mass

The Carmelite nuns of Arlington, Texas, are receiving the sacraments from two suspended priests, Bishop Michael Olson of Fort Worth announced (18 July).

According to Monsignor Olson, the two suspended priests are Father Christopher Clay and Father Marshall Roberts. Both priests are accused of homosexual abuse of minors.

They belonged to the Society of St John. This group was founded in 1997 by dismissed members of the Priestly Fraternity of St Pius X. The Society of St John cause big scandals, both of homosexual and financial nature. It was suppressed in 2004. Roberts was one of the founders of the Society of St John.

The Arlington nuns and Bishop Olson have been in an ongoing dispute since May 2023 that has been bitter and at times bizarre.

The diocese filed a complaint about drug abuse in the monastery, but the police closed the investigation.

The bishop had the Carmel searched for evidence.

The nuns filed a lawsuit against the diocese for trespassing. It was dismissed by a court in July 2023. Another case brought by the nuns was withdrawn by the nuns themselves.

The superior of the nuns has admitted on tape to violating her vow of chastity (telephone sex). Her alleged partner is a priest of the Raleigh diocese who lived for a time with the 'Transalpine Redemptorists'.

The Vatican initially appointed Olsen [=the enemy] as delegate for the monastery.

In April 2024 the leadership was transferred on paper to the president of the Carmelite association 'Christ the King'.
