Our weaknesses and frailties are many. That is why the encounter with the Master in Communion must be so frequent. The banquet is prepared and many are invited, but few attend. How can we make excuses? Love thwarts excuses.
We can keep the desire and the memory of this sacrament alive throughout the day by means of spiritual Communion, which "consists in an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Sacrament and in loving treatment as if we had already received him". It brings us many graces and helps us to live better at work and in our relationships with others. It makes it easier for us to have Holy Mass as the center of the day.
The Visit to the Blessed Sacrament, which is "a proof of gratitude, a sign of love and an expression of due adoration of the Lord, "13 is also very beneficial. There is no place like the proximity of the Tabernacle for those intimate and personal encounters that require a permanent union with Christ. It is there that the conversation with the Lord finds the most appropriate climate, as the history of the saints shows, and where the impulse for continuous prayer is born at work, in the street..., everywhere. The Lord present sacramentally sees us and hears us with greater intimacy, because his Heart, which continues to beat with love for us, is "the source of life and holiness"; he invites us every day to return the visit he has paid us by coming sacramentally into our souls.
And he says to us: Come away to a lonely place to rest a while.
With him we find peace, if we had lost it, strength to fulfill our task and joy in the service of others. "And what shall we do, you ask, in the presence of God in the Blessed Sacrament? What does a poor man do in the presence of a rich man? What does a sick man do in front of the doctor? What does a thirsty man do in view of a crystal clear fountain?"
Jesus has what we lack and need. He is the strength on this path of life. Let us ask Our Lady to teach us to receive Him "with that purity, humility and devotion" with which She received Him, "with the spirit and fervor of the saints."
