He awaits us in the Tabernacle

Jesus, whom I now see hidden, I pray that what I so long for may be fulfilled: that when I look upon your face, no longer hidden, I may be happy to see your glory, we pray in the hymn Adoro te devote.

One day, with the help of grace, we will see the glorious Christ full of majesty who welcomes us into his Kingdom. We will recognize him as the Friend who never failed us, whom we seek to treat and serve even in the least. Being very much in the midst of the world, in the secular tasks that have fallen to each one of us, and loving that world, which is where we must sanctify ourselves, we can say, however, with St. Augustine: "The thirst I have is to come to see the face of God; I thirst in the pilgrimage, I thirst on the way; but I will be satisfied at the arrival". Our heart will only experience fullness with the goods of God.

We already have Jesus with us, until the end of time. In the Holy Eucharist Christ is complete: his glorious Body, his human Soul and his divine Person, made present by the words of the Consecration. His Most Holy Humanity, hidden beneath the Eucharistic accidents, is found in what is most humble, most common to us - his Body and Blood, although in a glorious state - and especially accessible: under the species of bread and wine. In a particular way at the moment of Communion, when we make the Visit to the Blessed Sacrament..., we must go with a great desire to see him, to meet him, like Zacchaeus, like those crowds who had placed all their hope in him, like the blind and the lepers.... Better still, with the eagerness and desire with which Mary and Joseph sought him, as we have so often contemplated in the Fifth Mystery of Joy of the Holy Rosary.

Sometimes, because of our miseries and lack of faith, it may be difficult for us to appreciate the kind face of Jesus. It is then that we should ask Our Lady for a clean heart, a clear gaze, a greater desire for purification. It can happen to us as it did to the Apostles after the Resurrection, who, although they were sure that it was Him, did not dare to ask Him; so sure that none of the disciples dared to ask Him: Who are you, because they knew that it was the Lord. It was such a great thing to find Jesus alive, the same as always, after seeing Him die on the Cross! It is so immense to find Jesus alive in the Tabernacle, where He is waiting for us!
