We Christians, in fact, turn to the Mother of Heaven to obtain graces of every kind, both temporal and spiritual. Among these we ask Our Lady for the conversion of people who are far from her Son and, for us, for a state of continual conversion of soul, a disposition that makes us feel on the way every day, struggling to improve, to remove the obstacles that impede the action of the Holy Spirit in the soul. Her help is continually necessary to us in the apostolate; she is the one who truly changes hearts.
For this reason, since ancient times, Mary has been called "the health of the sick, the refuge of sinners, the consolation of the afflicted, the queen of the Apostles, of the martyrs...". Her hand, generous as that of all mothers, is the dispenser of all kinds of graces, and even, "in a certain sense, of the grace of the sacraments; for she has merited them for us in union with Our Lord on Calvary, and she also disposes us by her prayer to approach these sacraments and to receive them properly; sometimes she even sends us the priest without whom this sacramental help would not be granted to us "11.
In her hands we place all our concerns today and we make the resolution to go to her many times daily, in the great and in the small.
The faithful who are surrounded by distress and danger take refuge in the Virgin Mary, invoking her as Mother of mercy and dispenser of grace12. We take refuge in her every day. In the Hail Mary, we pray to her many times: "Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death...". This now is repeated all over the world by thousands of people of every age and color, who ask for the grace of the present moment13. This is the most personal grace, which varies with each person and in each situation. Even if at times, unintentionally, we are somewhat distracted, Our Lady, who is never distracted and knows our needs, prays for us and obtains for us the goods we need. A great cry goes up at every instant, day and night, to Our Heavenly Mother: Pray for us sinners, now.... How can she not hear us, how can she not attend to these supplications? From Heaven she knows well our material and spiritual needs, and like a mother full of tenderness she prays for her children.
Each time we turn to her, we draw closer to her Son. "Mary is always the way that leads to Christ. Every encounter with her necessarily results in an encounter with Christ himself. What else does recourse to Mary mean but a search in her arms, in her, through her and with her for Christ our Savior? "
The number of reasons and motives that we have for turning to Mary with confidence is overwhelming, in the certainty that we will always be heard, reminding her that it has never been heard that any of those who have come to your protection, implored your assistance and claimed your help, have been abandoned by you. Encouraged by this confidence, I come to you, Virgin Mother of virgins..... Mother of God, do not reject my supplications
In this month of October, now approaching, we will go to her praying with more attention the Holy Rosary, as the Church asks. In this prayer, Our Lady's favorite,16 we will not fail to put ambitious intentions, with the certainty that we will be heard.
