Alleged Marian Apparition in Uganda

Alex Kamoga claims that Our Lady appeared last week "as a reflection (!) in a water basin and later on the window of the house" during a rosary meeting in the village of Nalyamagonja next to Gayaza, central Uganda, reports Independent.co.ug.

Eyewitness accounts vary. Some describe a figure dressed in white and blue, while others saw a rainbow-like reflection in the window.

The event follows a similar claim from Masindi District, where some claimed that Our Lady appeared on Rwensa Hill in Nyangahya Sub-county.

Amon Guzima, the headman of Rwensa village, is believed to have been the first to witness the apparition while herding cattle. He and others claimed that Our Lady came with the message that cohabiting couples should marry. The apparition also called for repentance and prayers for the nation.

The Diocese of Hoima, the Archdiocese of Kampala, and the Secretariat of the Uganda Bishops’ Conference have heard about the "phenomena" and don't want to confirm anything.

The Chancellor of the Archdiocese of Kampala, Rev. Pius Male Ssentumbwe, announced an investigation. He warned the faithful not to publicly declare such events as miraculous, as such claims could be driven by individuals with ulterior motives.

Rev. John Baptist Kaganda, the national pastoral coordinator of the Uganda Bishops’ Conference, argued that most local phenomena are not recognised.
