The cult of the Blessed Virgin under the invocation of Our Lady of Loreto

The cult of the Blessed Virgin under the title of Our Lady of Loreto "is linked, according to ancient and living tradition, to the house of Nazareth; the house in which, as the Gospel of today's Mass reminds us, Mary lived after her betrothal to Joseph; the house of the Holy Family "1 , the home that St. Joseph would so lovingly prepare to receive Holy Mary. This dwelling was first of all Mary's house, for "every house is first and foremost the mother's sanctuary. God desires "that the children of the human family, when they come into the world, should have a roof over their heads, that they should have a house. However, the house of Nazareth, as we know, was not the place of the birth of the Son of Mary and Son of God. Probably, all the ancestors of Christ, of whom the genealogy of today's Gospel according to St. Matthew speaks, came into the world under the roof of a house. This was not granted to Him. He was born as a stranger in Bethlehem, in a stable. And He could not return to the house of Nazareth, because, forced to flee from Bethlehem to Egypt by the cruelty of Herod, only after the death of the king, Joseph dared to take Mary with the Child to the home of Nazareth. And from then on, that house was the place of daily life, the place of the hidden life of the Messiah; the house of the Holy Family. It was the first temple, the first church in which the Mother of God radiated her light with her motherhood. She irradiated it with her light, coming from her motherhood.

Its walls were witnesses to the intimate love of the members of the Holy Family, to the hidden work of those whom God loved most in the world. This dwelling, full of light and love, clean, cheerful, of joyful service, is the model for all Christian homes. Mary's soul would be reflected in it; the modest decorations, the order, the cleanliness, made it possible for Jesus and Joseph, after a day's work, to find rest next to Our Lady. The material care of our homes, sometimes surrounded by great poverty, by modest furnishings, is never indifferent to that coexistence in which we must find God. The Virgin Mary teaches us today to be also a sign of charity towards others.
