The spirit of Advent

 ¡

The spirit of Advent consists largely in living close to Our Lady during this time when she carries Jesus in her womb. Our life is also a slightly longer Advent, a waiting for that definitive moment when we will finally meet the Lord forever. The Christian knows that this Advent must be lived with Our Lady every day of his life if he wants to succeed with certainty in the only truly important thing in his life: to meet Christ in this life, and then in eternity.

And to prepare for Christmas, which is already so near, there is nothing better than to accompany Our Lady during these days, treating her with more love and trust.

Our Lady fosters joy in the soul, because with her treatment she leads us to Christ. She is "Teacher of hope. Mary proclaims that all generations will call her blessed (Lk 1:48). Humanly speaking, on what grounds was this hope based? Who was she for the men and women of that time? The great heroines of the Old Testament - Judith, Esther, Deborah - had already achieved human glory on earth (...). How Our Lady's hope contrasts with our impatience! We often ask God to repay us immediately for the little good we have done. As soon as the first difficulty arises, we complain. We are often incapable of sustaining the effort, of maintaining hope "

It is not he who suffers hardship and pain who falls into discouragement, but he who does not aspire to holiness and eternal life, and he who despairs of attaining them. The first posture is determined by unbelief, by gentrification, lukewarmness and excessive attachment to the goods of the earth, which he considers to be the only true ones. Discouragement, if not remedied, paralyzes efforts to do good and overcome difficulties. At times, discouragement in one's own sanctity is determined by weakness of will, by fear of the effort involved in the ascetical struggle and of having to renounce attachments and disorders of the senses. Neither can the apparent failures of our interior struggle or of our apostolic zeal discourage us: he who does things for the love of God and for his glory never fails: "Convince yourself of this truth: your success - now and in this - was to fail. -Thank the Lord and begin again!"2 "You have not failed: you have gained experience. Go ahead!"

In a few days we will see Jesus in the manger in the crib, which is a proof of God's mercy and love. We will be able to say: "On this Christmas Eve everything stops in me. I am in front of Him: there is nothing but Him, in the white immensity. He says nothing, but He is there..... He is God loving me. "4 And if God becomes man and loves me, how can we not seek Him? How can we lose hope of finding Him if He seeks me? Let us put away all possible discouragement; neither external difficulties nor our personal misery can do anything in the face of the joy of Christmas that is already approaching.
