"I personally prefer Donald Trump to Joe Biden," Cardinal Gerhard Müller
told Corriere.it (January 29). He added the relative truism, "Better a
good Protestant than a bad Catholic."
The Cardinal believes that
"many cardinals and bishops think like me, even if they are afraid to
say so. And in the United States, the percentage is even higher."
Cardinal
Müller met with Trump in 2022 at his golf club in Bedminster, a
forty-minute drive from Manhattan. He also met with Vice President JD
Vance at the home of New York Cardinal Timothy Dolan.
He also crossed paths in Rome with the future U.S. ambassador to the Holy See, Brian Burch, president of Catholic Vote.
"I
was told that Burch is a good Catholic. And Trump [twice divorced] will
help the Church because he represents natural law values: inviolability
of life, the importance of marriage, religious freedom," Müller hopes.
And, "He pursues the idea of a state that does not interfere in every area of life."
Müller
also commented on "opportunistic super-billionaires like Musk," whom he
called an ardent enemy of "Communist China, which makes good Catholics
suffer".
