Unsurprisingly, the group is currently under a Vatican commissioner.
On 20 June, Bishop Matthieu Dupont of Laval will ordain thirteen deacons
of the neoconservative Community of Saint Martin as priests in the
Basilica of Notre-Dame d'Évron.
The following day, Archbishop Vincent Dollmann of Cambrai will ordain nine more priests of the community in Cambrai.
In
September 2025, the Community of Saint Martin will send priests to a
further four dioceses, often in rural areas [to limit their influence]:
• Diocese of Auch, France: Lomagne, Fleurance and Lectoure
• Diocese of Nîmes, France: Alès
• Bayeux-Lisieux, France: Honfleur
• Diocese of Salzburg, Austria: Thalgau
Archbishop
Bertrand Lacombe of Auch has high praise for Saint Martin: "The priests
of the Community of Saint Martin receive excellent training, and their
youth, missionary experience and commitment to young people are real
assets for the areas where they are sent."
To celebrate its 50th
anniversary in 2026, the Community is organising a pilgrimage to the
tomb of Saint Martin in Tours in May 2026.
In September 2024, the
former District Superior of the Priestly Fraternity of St Pius X in
Germany, the Swiss-born Father Firmin Udressy, left the FSSPX to join
Saint Martin.
Founded by Abbé Jean-François Guérin (+2005) in
1976, the group consisted of 185 prêtres et diacres in 2023. They
strictly adhere to the Novus Ordo and the Second Vatican Council.
Their
seminary is currently the largest training centre for priests in
France.
