There are few people who truly know Christ

Among the evils that afflict humanity, there is one that stands out above all others: there are few people who truly, intimately and personally know Christ; many may die without even knowing that Christ is alive and that he brings salvation to all. It will depend to a great extent on our commitment that many will seek him and find him: "so much work awaits everyone in the vineyard of the Lord. The "master of the house" repeats even more forcefully his invitation: "You also go into my vineyard". Can we remain indifferent to so many who do not know Christ? Let each one examine what he is doing," exhorts St. Gregory the Great, "and see if he is already working in the sower's vineyard. For he who in this life seeks his own interests has not yet entered the vineyard of the Lord. For those who work for him (...) are those who are eager to win souls and are in a hurry to lead others into the vineyard".

In the Lord's field there is room and work for everyone: young and old, rich and poor, for men and women who are in the fullness of life and for those who already see their twilight approaching, for those who seem to have plenty of free time and for those who have to make great efforts and sacrifices to be with their families every day.... Even children, the Second Vatican Council affirms, "have their own apostolic capacity," and how fruitful is their apostolate on so many occasions! And the sick, how much good they can do! "Consequently, the sweetest obligation is imposed on all Christians to work so that the divine message of salvation may be known and accepted by all people everywhere on earth".

No one who passes by us in life will be able to say that he was not encouraged by our example and by our word to love Christ more. None of our friends, none of our relatives should say at the end of their lives that no one took care of them.
