Prayer Vigils to Atone for Obscenity in Linz Cathedral

Two long prayer vigils were held in Linz, Austria, on 13 July to atone for the obscenity displayed in the local cathedral. The meanwhile destroyed obscenity depicts a person giving birth with her genitals exposed and calls her the "Mother of God".

The cathedral square belongs to the diocese and can hardly be used for public prayer.

At 2pm, around 100 people gathered behind the cathedral and prayed several rosaries. Towards the end, a priest from the Priestly Fraternity of St Peter appeared and gave a blessing.

At 5pm, another group prayed the rosary at a nearby, very busy intersection in the city centre (Mozartkreuzung), facing the cathedral. This prayer was announced by the organisation TFP as an "act of reparation".

One banner read: "International act of reparation for the blasphemy against the virginity of Our Lady, Mother of God, and ours too".

The obscenity is an humiliation of every woman and every mother who gives birth or has given birth to children.
