Monsignor Pedro María Laxague, 71, the 'conservative' Bishop of
Zárate-Campana, province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, has forbidden Rev.
Olivera Ravasi, 47, to reside in his diocese.
LaNacion.com.ar
(August 15) reports that Francis is aware of the measure and approves of
it. Rev. Ravasi was ordained for the conservative diocese of San Rafael
in Mendoza. He came to this diocese after his formation at the
'conservative' Institute of the Incarnate Word which is located in San
Rafael.
For the last five years, he has been regularly in the
diocese of Zárate-Campana, and was allowed to stay there for several
months in 2019 for family reasons. After that, he stayed there without
asking.
In keeping with Francis' predilection for prisoners, Rev.
Ravasi was instrumental in organising a meeting on 11 July between some
dictatorship-era prisoners convicted of 'crimes against humanity' and
six liberal legislators in the Ezeiza prison.
The meeting made
headlines last week when a photo (below) was published showing the
legislators next to imprisoned former members of the Argentinean
military.
Jorge Antonio Olivera, the priest's father, a former
military officer is currently under house arrest, convicted for 'crimes
against humanity'.
The Argentine Bishops’ Conference quickly
distanced itself from Rev. Olivera Ravasi which led the Argentinean
commentator Caminante-Wanderer to the conclusion that for the
Argentinean bishops there are prisoners of category A and prisoners of
category B, a distinction that is not part of the Gospel.
