The so-called Megiddo Mosaic from the Holy Land is on display at the
Museum of the Bible in Washington DC from November 13 through July 2025.
The museum believes it is the earliest known inscription that identifies Jesus Christ as God.
The
mosaic was discovered in 2005 on the grounds of a local prison that was
seeking to expand. It covered the floor of an early Christian chapel,
dating from around 230.
Greek inscriptions appear in the mosaic
along with many decorative and figural motifs, such as fish. The
inscriptions honor seven people, five of them women, for their
beneficial roles in the local church. They also proclaim "God Jesus
Christ".
At the opening of the exhibit, the museum director
Carlos Campo called the mosaic the greatest discovery since the Dead Sea
Scrolls.
