In the minutes after the death of Pope Francis was announced to the world, an incident occurred.
The
staff of the St Peter's Factory pressed the M12 button on the panel in
the sacristy of St Peter's Basilica, which activates the bells of the
Vatican Basilica.
This command activates the central bell to announce the death of the Pope. But, unexpectedly, there was no sound.
When the staff climbed to the top to check what had happened, they discovered that the chain that activates the bell had broken.
It took five men to manually strike the bell and thus announce Francis' death to the world
