The Prefecture of the Papal Household has confirmed that fewer and fewer
people have attended Pope Francis' general audiences, liturgical
celebrations, special audiences and Angelus prayers.
His pontificate has not inspired enthusiasm among the Catholics, despite the propaganda efforts of the anti-Catholic media.
In
2013, the year Francis was elected, 7,314,350 people attended the
events of the newly elected pope, but his polemics and divisive
behaviour quickly alienated the faithful.
So things went downhill: 5,916,800 (2014), 3,210,860 (2015), 3,700,000 (2016).
On the tenth anniversary of Francis' pontificate, in 2023, Francis had lost 6 million faithful compared to his first year.
In his last full year, 2024, Francis achieved the worst result of his entire pontificate.
Only 1,682,100 people came to hear him, a far cry from the 7,314,350 who were present at the start of his pontificate in 2013.
