A powerful solar flare was captured by the GOES-16 satellite camera, operated jointly by NASA and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). Images from March 28 show the X1.1 eruption, the most powerful on the scale, emerging from a sunspot.

The phenomenon even affected the Earth's magnetic field and caused radio blackouts across the Americas.
