Cardinal Zuppi Acknowledges Fading of Church: "Christianity in Italy is coming to an end — but not what is Christian," Cardinal Matteo Zuppi, President of the Italian Bishops’ Conference, said on November 17 at the opening of the bishops’ plenary assembly.
What is fading, he emphasized, is an order. Italian society is no longer "naturally Christian," this should not frighten priests, bishops, or local communities:
"The end of Christianity does not mean the disappearance of faith," he said.
