25 Italian Doctors Face Trial Over Covid Dissent:
In a first for Italy’s republican history, 25 doctors are appearing before the Central Commission for Health Professions at the Ministry of Health. They are not being tried for clinical malpractice, but for publicly criticising the government's policies on the pandemic. The charges focus on the tone and manner of their statements.
The appeal
hearing in Rome, which follows suspensions imposed by local medical
boards and was initiated by the FNOMCEO, could result in their permanent
removal from the medical register. According to the defence, the
federation’s president, Filippo Anelli, pushed for definitive expulsion
following earlier disciplinary measures.
