## Resurfaced 3,300-Year-Old Egyptian Document Suggests Biblical Giants Were Real

It was these children, described as giant beings and called "men of renown," who caused the widespread chaos that prompted God to cleanse the earth by "destroying every creature under heaven" with "floodwaters."
Fast-forwarding to the present, **Anastasi I**—a 3,300-year-old document written in hieratic that has been housed in the British Museum since 1839—has reignited the interest of the Associates for Biblical Research, a religious organization based in Pennsylvania. This has led some historians and researchers to believe that these giant "men of renown" might have actually existed.
The ancient document, believed to date back to the 13th century BCE, mentions encounters with the **Shasu** people, who were allegedly **2.4 meters (approx. 7'10") tall**, a height that terrified the Israelites, as originally reported by the *Daily Mail*.
### Who were the Shasu?
The Shasu were nomadic or semi-nomadic groups from the southern Levant and Transjordan (the regions of Edom, Moab, Seir, and the Negev). They were shepherds, caravanners, and at times, raiders. They appear in many Egyptian texts beyond Anastasi I; Egypt generally viewed them as unstable and problematic.

### Connecting the Dots
To bridge the gap between Anastasi I and the Bible as proof that giants existed, researchers point to **Numbers 13:33**. This Old Testament verse hints that the Israelites encountered these large figures: *"And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight."*
Anastasi I mentions the Shasu within the context of dangerous routes, difficult-to-control territories, and risks to Egyptian officials or troops. The scroll, which researchers believe is a letter written by a scribe, states:
*"The narrow gorge is infested with Shasu hidden under the bushes; some of them are **four cubits or five cubits** from head to foot, they have fierce faces, their hearts are not kind, and they do not listen to pleas."*
A height of "four or five cubits" translates to a figure close to **8 feet tall (2.43 meters)**.
### Skepticism and Hyperbole
Despite these findings, historians remain skeptical, as there is reportedly no physical or archaeological evidence that giants ever existed.
Furthermore, in Egyptian (and Semitic) languages, measurements were often used **hyperbolically**. They served to impress rather than describe biology: "As tall as 4 or 5 cubits" meant fearsome, dominant, or intimidating. This is the same rhetorical device used when the Assyrians claimed, "Their warriors covered the land like a storm." In the ancient Near East, the "giant" was often a symbolic category for chaos, not an anthropometric record.
### Other Modern Mysteries
On the other hand, claims of "oversized humans" from Central America roaming a remote town 90 miles northeast of Reno, Nevada, still baffle some after all these years.
While many believe these red-haired, pale-skinned giants are merely legends, some discovery reports suggest otherwise—such as the account of a pair of miners who allegedly found **60 human skeletons**, some of which stood between 7 and 8 feet tall.
