FSSPX: "Only Two Bishops Left and Church Does Not Change Direction"

Father Davide Pagliarani, Superior of the Priestly Fraternity of Saint Pius X spoke in an inhouse interview with FSSPX.news about the planned episcopal consecrations on July 1. Main quotes.

- “Independently of consecrations, we already now justify our apostolate precisely because there exists in the Church a state of necessity. And it is because of this state of necessity that this decision imposes itself—for the good of souls.”

- “We now have only two bishops left, who are getting older. The situation of the Church does not appear likely to change direction in the coming years.”

- “I think that announcing the consecrations five or six months in advance allows us, for our part, to prepare for the worst; but it also allows the pope to reflect, and, I hope, to receive further explanations from us, so as better to understand our good will. […] We have good intentions.”

- “Definition of the state of necessity: it is the difficulty of finding in a parish the means necessary for our salvation—the truth, the preaching of the truth, Catholic moral teaching, and the sacraments. I think that today it is even worse. Much worse [than in 1988]. The decisions taken by Pope Francis are catastrophic.”

- “An example concerns the statement of Pope Francis that the plurality of religions would be willed by divine wisdom, willed by God himself. God would therefore have willed, as such, the plurality of religions. Is this statement Catholic? Is it God who willed the true religion together with errors alongside it? No. That is an absurdity.“

- “Platforms on the internet, despite everything, do allow the dissemination of good ideas. This growing awareness is helped by exchanges and by online platforms, even outside the FSSPX. Everyone progresses at his own pace and from his own perspective, but the phenomenon is undeniable. There is therefore a greater awareness of these errors.”

- “During the Day of Remembrance for the Holocaust on January 27, the prefect of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith gave an official speech. In it he compared the historical Inquisition—the predecessor of his own office—to the Gestapo. This implies that the Church, which labored for centuries to defend the faith, acted like a Nazi secret police. So the question arises: who truly loves the Church and her Tradition?”

- “If we do not have an official canonical mission, it is precisely because there is a problem in the Church. The Church is increasingly oriented toward other objectives than the salvation of souls—objectives much more connected to this world. For example, ecological problems.“

- “We are in communion because we believe the same things. We believe everything the Church teaches, we adhere to it. Communion is not a feeling and it is not an administrative stamp. Communion is communion in the faith.”

- “The Ecclesia Dei institutes exist because the FSSPX exists. Historically they began in 1988 following the episcopal consecrations. Rome wanted to create an alternative for those who were attached to the traditional liturgy but did not wish to follow what was called the ‘schism’ of Archbishop Lefebvre.”

- “These institutes find themselves in a situation where, first of all, it is the local bishop who can welcome them or expel them, approve them or exclude them. But if you have a family and the chapel where you attend Mass is suddenly closed because the bishop has changed his mind, where do you go with your family? Do you return to the new Mass?”

- “The traditional morality concerning marriage has been ruined. It has collapsed. All this, of course, is done in the name of understanding, listening, and the capacity for adaptation. And thus everything ends up being justified.”
