On Palm Sunday, Leo XIV used again a ferula that features a risen Christ leaving the cross.
He
has used it since 6 January 2026. On 9 January, the Office for the
Liturgical Celebrations told VaticanNews.va that the cross "unites the
mission of proclaiming the mystery of Christ on the cross with the
glorious manifestation of the resurrection".
The ferula "presents
Christ no longer bound by the nails of the Passion, but with his
glorified body", according to the papal office.
And: "The Paschal
Mystery thus becomes a source of hope for humanity because death no
longer has any power over mankind since Christ redeemed everything he
assumed."
