Widespread Rise in Catholic Baptisms Across the Globe

Many dioceses across Europe, North America, and Asia have seen significant increases in Catholic baptisms and conversions this Easter. The strange thing is that anti-Catholic media including New York Times, Washington Post or CNN advertised this trend.

The most significant increase was reported in France, where 21,386 catechumens were baptized during the Easter Vigil. The total included more than 13,000 adults and over 8,000 adolescents, marking the highest figure ever recorded in the country.

Outside Europe, large numbers were also reported in parts of Asia. In Hong Kong, approximately 2,500 catechumens were baptized, while Singapore reported 1,089 catechumens entering the Church.

In North America, several major dioceses published substantial baptism figures. The Archdiocese of Toronto reported 1,584 catechumens, while Vancouver recorded around 650 catechumens.

In the United States, diocesan figures included approximately 900 catechumens in Richmond (Virginia), more than 680 in Boston, 645 in Newark (New Jersey), and 614 in Chicago.

Detroit reported more than 1,400 new Catholics, while Washington, D.C. reported nearly 1,800 entrants. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles reported more than 8,500 people entering the Church.

Belgium recorded 689 adult baptisms. Sydney reported 338 catechumens.

Smaller but still notable figures were reported in Western Europe: Austria saw around 240 adult baptisms in 2026, including about 118 in Vienna alone. 42 catechumens in ’s-Hertogenbosch in the Netherlands, 33 in Getafe in Spain, and 33 in the Algarve region of Portugal, while the Diocese of Bolzano-Brixen in Italy recorded five catechumens.

In Malta, 36 adults from multiple countries were baptized at the Easter Vigil.

In the United Kingdom and Ireland, dioceses also reported increases in entrants. Westminster recorded around 800 people entering the Church, while Southwark reported more than 450, and Dublin reported 129 entrants.
