Secretary of Peruvian Bishops’ Conference steps down after homosexual abuse allegations

Bishop Antonio Santarsiero Rosa of Huacho has stepped down as secretary general of the Peruvian bishops’ conference. The move follows homosexual abuse accusations published by InfoVaticana.com. Two independent witnesses accused the bishop of homosexual and psychological misconduct. In a statement posted on X on 9 April, the bishops’ conference said that, in light of the report, Bishop Santarsiero had requested to step aside. He described this as “an act of responsibility towards the institutional mission, in order to dedicate himself to clarifying the truth.” Bishop Santarsiero added that he “categorically” denies the allegations.
