Italy's largest Catholic scouting organization approved a new policy
amounting to an acknowledgment that adults who indulge in sexual vices
cannot be excluded from leadership positions.
The document is titled ‘Identità di genere e orientamento sessuale e affettivo’ and was approved by the General Council in May.
It
states that “emotional orientation and gender identity cannot
constitute exclusion criteria" for adults from leadership roles.
Founded in 1974, AGESCI has approximately 183,000 members and more than 33,000 leaders across Italy.
AGESCI
grounded its position in several Church documents, including the final
document of the Synod on Youth (2018), the Synod on Synodality (2024),
the Italian Synod (2025), and Amoris Laetitia by Pope Francis.
