It is up to us as Christians, deeply embedded in the heart of society with full rights and duties, to provide solutions to temporal problems and to shape a world around us that is increasingly human and Christian, being exemplary citizens who demand their rights and know how to fulfill all their duties to society. Moreover, on many occasions, the way Christians act in public life cannot be limited to mere compliance with legal norms or what has been established.
The discrepancy between the legal order and the moral criteria of one's own conduct sometimes forces us to adopt behaviors that are more demanding or different from strictly legal criteria: excessively low salaries, unjust situations not covered by law, a doctor's dedication to patients in need beyond the hours strictly required by regulations or hospital provisions, and so on. Are we known in our work—whatever it may be—as people who, out of love for God and for others, go beyond what strict obligation dictates: schedule, dedication, interest, and sincere concern for people and their problems?
