Cardinal McElroy bans kneelers for receiving communion

Cardinal Robert McElroy of Washington D.C. is reportedly banning Communion kneelers and altar rails. According to Christine Niles (June 14), Cardinal McElroy gave a directive during a recent meeting with priests: “no installation or reinstallation of altar rails”. The directive also stated that the use of temporary kneelers is discouraged. The excuse given was an alleged “disruption of the flow of the communion line".
