A group of 26 former Meta* employees has filed a federal lawsuit in Oakland, California (USA), alleging that the company used artificial intelligence systems to select layoffs, disproportionately affecting those on medical, parental, or family leave, AP reported this Wednesday.

How the Systems Operated
These tools—such as keystroke monitors, activity trackers, and performance lists—penalized workers on leave for their lower activity levels, assigning them low ratings.
The Impact: Those affected are part of the nearly 8,000 employees (around 10% of the workforce) whom Meta laid off in May to invest more heavily in AI.
The Demands: The former employees are calling to halt new cuts scheduled for July 22 and are demanding financial compensation.
On the other hand, Meta denies the allegations, asserting that the final decisions were made by humans.
