The reality of the persecuted Church and of new Christians in the West is once again brought to light. Moroccan professor Ahmed Yetib, a resident of Belgium and a convert from Islam to Catholicism, finds himself at the center of a worrying wave of threats after the discovery of his TikTok account—a platform he courageously uses to share his faith and his love for Jesus Christ.
This painful event highlights the immense courage and great sacrifices made by many brothers and sisters of Muslim origin when they receive Holy Baptism and enter the Church. By making his conversion public and bearing witness to his faith on digital media, Yetib has begun to suffer harassment and intimidation from intolerant sectors that do not accept his religious freedom or his fidelity to the Gospel.
Despite the danger and the hostility of his surroundings, this educator's testimony reminds us of the fundamental calling of every baptized person to be the light of the world and to never be ashamed of the Cross, even when one's own safety is seriously compromised. His determination is a wake-up call to the lukewarmness of many Christians who live out their faith away from public commitment.
The universal Catholic community cannot remain indifferent to the suffering of those who leave everything behind to follow Christ. It is a duty of charity and justice to sustain Ahmed Yetib and so many silent converts living under the shadow of coercion in our prayers, asking the Lord to grant them the strength of the martyrs and the grace to persevere in the doctrine of the Holy Catholic Church.
