Totus Tuus
In carefully investigated Eucharistic miracles — including Buenos Aires (1996), Tixtla (Mexico), and others — scientists have found human heart tissue (often left ventricle myocardium) and blood of type AB, the same rare type linked to the Shroud of Turin.
White blood cells were active in some samples, showing the tissue came from a living person under extreme stress. Yet when DNA analysis was attempted, human genetic material was detected… but scientists could not obtain a complete sequence or full DNA profile. The DNA remained elusive and resistant to full amplification.
Many faithful see this difficulty as more than a laboratory limitation. They regard it as a quiet sign of Jesus’ divinity and the Virgin Birth: the absence of a complete human genetic sequence points to a body without a human father, conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Science identifies the tissue and blood type, yet cannot map the full genetic code of what the Church proclaims is the Body and Blood of Christ. Faith rests on Jesus’ words — “This is my body… this is my blood” — while these findings leave researchers without a purely natural explanation.
The Eucharist remains a profound mystery that invites both scientific humility and deeper reverence.
