In a homily delivered by Víctor "Tucho" Fernández, then Archbishop of La Plata, on 5 March 2023 at the Cathedral of La Plata, Argentina, he said: "You know that, for many centuries, the Church went in another direction. Without realizing it, it developed an entire philosophical and moral framework full of classifications—to categorize people, to label them. This one is like this, that one is like that.
This one can receive Communion; that one cannot. This one can be forgiven; that one cannot. It is terrible that this happened to us in the Church. Thank God Pope Francis is helping us free ourselves from those rigid patterns of thinking."
