J Martin’s proposes a homosexual adaptation of the Confiteor

An October 21 essay on the Fr. James Martin’s website Outreach proposes a homosexual adaptation of the Confiteor.

Author Ariell Watson Simon declares, “I don’t believe that my sexuality is wrong,” and criticizes an “overemphasis on sexual morality.” She identifies racism, xenophobia and transphobia as structural sins.
Her rewritten prayer confesses “prejudiced thoughts,” “biased judgements” and cooperation with injustice. It invokes “spiritual ancestors, queer saints” while omitting explicit references to Mary, the angels and praying “to the Lord our God,” instead asking others to “pray with me” to “build a better tomorrow.”
