We have all been called to holiness

We are still the pilgrim Church heading toward Heaven; and, while we walk, we must gather that treasure of good works with which we will one day present ourselves before our God. We have heard the invitation of the Lord: If anyone wishes to come after Me... We have all been called to the fullness of life in Christ. The Lord calls us in our professional work, so that we may find Him there, carrying out that task with human perfection and, at the same time, with a supernatural sense: offering it to God, practicing charity with the people we interact with, living mortification in its fulfillment, seeking even here on earth the face of God, whom we will one day see face to face. We can and must acquire this contemplation—this relationship of friendship with our Father God—through everyday things, which are repeated many times, with apparent monotony, because "to love God and serve Him, it is not necessary to do strange things. Christ asks all men without exception to be perfect as their heavenly Father is perfect (Mt 5:48). For the vast majority of men, being holy means sanctifying one's work, sanctifying oneself in one's work, and sanctifying others through work, thus finding God on the path of their lives" (11).

What else did those mothers of families, those intellectuals, or those workers do... to be in Heaven? Because that is where we want to go; it is the only thing that, in an absolute way, matters to us. This holy decision is of great importance for others. If, with the grace of God and the help of so many, we reach Heaven, we will not go alone: we will draw many along with us.

Those who have already arrived sought to sanctify the small daily realities; and if they were ever unfaithful, they repented and restarted the path anew. That is what we must do: win Heaven each day with what we have at hand, among the people God has chosen to place by our side.
