Francis punishes Diocese with another apostolic visitation

Francis Afflicts Fréjus-Toulon Diocese With Another Apostolic Visitation

Pope Francis has sent an Apostolic Visitation to thriving Fréjus-Toulon, best Diocese in France, through the Congregation for Bishops. The diocese is led by the successful Bishop Dominique Rey (70).

The Apostolic Nunciature in Paris claimed in a press release (February 7) that there are a "number of difficulties" in the diocese.

The visitation begins February 13 and will be led by Archbishop Antoine Hérouard of Dijon. His assistant is Archbishop Joël Mercier, former secretary of the Congregation for Clergy.

Bishop Rey has already suffered a visitation in 2021. Francis suspended all ordinations in 2022.

The end of the new Apostolic Visitation is predictable: removal of Rey and bringing the diocese into line.
