Among the potential candidates for the next conclave is Cardinal Luis
Antonio Tagle, 67, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of
Peoples.
However, his disastrous performance as president of
Caritas Internationalis (2015-2022) has shown that he has no
administrative skills.
Caritas Internationalis is the global confederation of Catholic charitable organisations.
In
November 2022, Francis was forced to dismiss the entire leadership of
Caritas Internationalis after an external audit revealed management
problems, a poor working environment and serious deficiencies in the
organisation's administration.
Of course, the report protected Tagle, but revealed his inefficiency and incompetence.
Francis appointed a temporary administrator, leaving Tagle in a symbolic position with no power within the organisation.
Among
many other things, the next Pope will have to deal with the financial
crisis left by Francis. It is clear that this task would be way over
Tagle's head.
"If he couldn't manage a charity, how could he
manage the Vatican's complex financial web?" - InfoVaticana.com writes
(12 March).
