Netherlands: Woman (63) dies of blood clots 5 days after blood transfusion
Emser, 63, died of clots in her lungs and leg five days after a blood transfusion. The case was reported to Sanquin, but the blood bank covered up the report, writes The Other Newspaper.
"I am convinced that the embolisms in the lungs and leg were a direct result of the transfusion," nurse Jenny Marskamp told the newspaper.
When she needed a blood transfusion, she asked doctors and Sanquin for a transfusion with unvaccinated blood. The doctors and the blood bank would not cooperate. All blood is safe," they said.
Emser received four units of blood in January 2023. Shortly thereafter, she became short of breath and was taken to the hospital by ambulance. There it turned out that she had centimeter-sized pulmonary embolisms and a thrombosed leg. She died a few days later.
A month later, Jenny complained to the hospital and to Sanquin. She showed the hospital doctors a video of Professor Emeritus Pierre Capel on blood clots. One of the doctors looked at her with tears in his eyes.
Sanquin "got away with it" by stating that Emser had probably suffered a "transfusion reaction."
