Bishop Gregory Parkes of St. Petersburg, Florida, has converted the
parochial church Epiphany in Tampa into a diocesan shrine, effective
July 1. The move followed "the careful study" of Pope Francis’
Traditionis Custodes, the bulletin of the Epiphany parish announced on
March 25 (below).
The newly established Shrine will be known as the Epiphany of Our Lord Shrine.
It will be a place for Roman Rite Catholics.
Bishop
Parkes has entrusted the pastoral care to the priests of the Institute
of Christ the King Sovereign Priests. The Institute will recommend
clergy to the Bishop to staff the Shrine.
Two other churches in
the Diocese of St. Petersburg offer the Mass in the Roman Rite: St.
Anthony the Abbot, Brooksville, and St. Justin Martyr, Largo. Both do so
with an indult from the Vatican.
