A priest celebrated the marriage of a "transgender" liasion in a church in Corrientes, Argentina, on January 28, after consultation with Archbishop José Adolfo Larregain, 59, of Corrientes.
Transvestite Solange Ayala is male and nationwide homosexual activist who presents as a woman.
His partner is a female who presents as a man and uses the name Isaías.
Ayala told RadioSudamericana.com on February 6 that they completed a "standard" Catholic marriage preparation process.
The priest consulted with the archbishop, who determined there was no canonical impediment to the marriage based on the couple's biological sexes.
Marriage Register Uses Transgender Names
Ayala praised the priest for what he described as respectful treatment.
According to the interview, the couple’s baptismal certificates contained their real names, but the marriage record used their stage names.
Ayala said the priest understood the situation from the outset and conducted the ceremony using the stage names.
Photos and videos of the wedding were shared by local media and on social platforms.
