Adverse effects of mindfulness

"Mindfulness has become an increasingly widespread practice worldwide to counteract stress and various mental health issues. However, recent research warns that mindfulness could also have adverse effects and even promote the onset of certain psychological disorders.

Warnings regarding potential harmful effects are not entirely new. The *Dharmatrāta Meditation Scripture* is considered the first documented evidence of this technique. According to an article by Miguel Farias, a professor of experimental psychology at Coventry University (UK), this text—written by a Buddhist community in India over 1,500 years ago—describes various mindfulness practices while also mentioning post-meditation effects. These include symptoms of depression and anxiety, as well as cognitive anomalies associated with episodes of psychosis, dissociation, and depersonalization."
