There was a moment when everything seemed lost.
The city was under threat. Fear filled the streets, and the Church where St. Hyacinth of Cracow served was in danger
.
But Hyacinth did not run away empty-handed.He entered the church and knelt before the Blessed Sacrament
.
Then, according to a cherished Dominican tradition, he heard a mysterious voice from a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary:“
Hyacinth, take my Son, and take me
.” The saint understood
.
He carefully took the Blessed Sacrament into his hands. Then he turned toward the statue of Mary.It was enormous and extremely heavy
.
Tradition says that at that moment, the weight of the statue became miraculously light. Now the saint stood carrying two treasures:
Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
Mary, the Mother who always leads us to Jesus.

But ahead of him was a river.
There was no bridge.
No boat.
No obvious escape. The saint stepped toward the water
. And according to the ancient Dominican account, he walked across the river without sinking, carrying the Eucharist and the statue of Mary with him
. Those who witnessed the event could hardly believe their eyes
.
But the deeper message of the story is even more beautiful.
Hyacinth was willing to risk everything rather than abandon the Eucharistic Lord.
He did not leave Jesus behind when danger came.
And Mary, in the traditional account, was not separated from her Son either.
It became a powerful image of Christian faith:
When the world tells you to abandon Christ because following Him is difficult, hold on tighter.
When the road disappears, God can make a way.
When the burden seems too heavy, grace can give you strength you never knew you had.And when fear tells you that you are alone, remember the words traditionally associated with that miraculous moment:
“
Take my Son, and take me
.” St. Hyacinth eventually became known as the “Apostle of Poland,” remembered for his missionary zeal and devotion to the Eucharist and the Blessed Virgin Mary.
St. Hyacinth of Cracow, pray for us
